Announcing CPE’s Summer Workshop Series

Typically each summer, the Center for Popular Economics puts on its Summer Institute. This year however, we are switching gears and formats, and invite you to join us in our brand new Summer Workshop Series! Please join us for weekly workshops, from June 7th through August 9th, giving CPE’s critical analysis of current issues in the economy and looking at economic alternatives.

Here at the CPE Blog, we’ll give a short introduction to each week’s session through the summer. For now, an overview:

Schedule

Workshops are open to all and will take place throughout the summer in Springfield, MA at the Pioneer Valley Central Labor Council at 640 Page Boulevard. All workshops will happen on Saturdays from 2-5pm. Light refreshments will be provided.

  • Saturday June 7: Introduction to CPE’s Political Economy Analysis **(suggested pre-requisite for all workshops)

  • Saturday June 14: 35 Years of Worsening Labor Conditions- What Can We Do About It?

  • Saturday June 21: Higher Education in Neoliberal America

  • Saturday June 28: Local Food, Good Jobs

  • Saturday July 12: Capitalism and the K-12 School System

  • Saturday July 19: Global Political Economy of Trade and Immigration

  • Saturday July 26: National Single Payer Health Insurance- Can We Afford Anything Less?

  • Saturday August 2: Household Debt, the Foreclosure Crisis, and Resistance

  • Saturday August 9: Can We Cooperate Out Of This Mess?

Registration Info

To cover labor and overhead costs, each workshop has a suggested donation of $25 per person, with a minimum of $10. For those registering for the entire series, we suggest a $200 donation, with a minimum of $75. For groups and organizations registering 3 or more participants, we suggest an organizational rate of $50 per person. Payment information is available on the registration link.
